May 2018 Goals Review

MAY 2018, Blog & YouTube Goals Review. I share an insight on how my blog and youtube are doing including analytics and income. I also share a toddler speech update.

In this post, I want to share my activity from May 2018. At the start of January 2018, I uploaded a video to my YouTube channel to share my goals (business/personal) for the year 2018. In this blog post, I will share my May 2018 stats and whether or not I’ve reached those goals.

Business goals:

  • Daily posts on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter

    • Every month I seem to abandon my Twitter feed.
      • Not this month, well the last 6 days of May, I finally found a strategy that will help me gain followers and a community over on Twitter. As you can see from the below graphic, I posted 100 tweets and gained 21 followers.

It’s early days with this new strategy but so far I’m liking the results.

  • In May 2018, I posted 20/31 days on Facebook. Overall I uploaded 25 individual posts on this platform and gained 3-page likes.

  • Also this May, I managed to post most days on Instagram. I have uploaded 23 posts on Instagram, the one below reached the most people.

This month about half of my analytics and stats were down from the previous month. However, the average view duration, likes, comments and subscribers were up on the previous month.

Looking ahead to 2018 as a whole, my goal on YouTube is to achieve 6,000 subscribers for a total of 12,000 subscribers by December 31st, 2018. In May 2018 I gained 370 subs the number now stands at 7,650. Realistically I need to gain 500 per month. If these numbers stay the same I won’t be on course to reach my subscriber goal.

In the 5 months since January 2018, I’ve gained 1,689 subscribers, had 507,829 views with a watch time of 1,513,559 minutes.

My top 5 referrers were: StumbleUpon with 225, Facebook with 121 views, Pinterest with 78 views, YouTube with 58 views and Search Engines with 50 views.

In May 2018 I made €0.14 of income on my blog from google ads. That’s a 1400% increase from March 2018, when I made €0.01. It’s double what my blog made in April 2018, when I made €0.07.

Ava’s goals:

Reduce screen time

I spend every spare minute working on my blog and YouTube. Unfortunately, the downside of this is, Ava gets to view more TV than I would wish. However, she is learning new words from this so I don’t carry too much guilt. I don’t plop her in front of the TV all day, we do get out for fresh air twice per day. Usually a walk in the park or a trip to the playground. At her mealtimes, the TV is on and she will watch that for about 30 minutes. Also sometimes in the car, I do give her my phone to watch YouTube Kids.

Daily “learning” activities

Ava turned 2 years old late March. I’m very honest on this blog and will disclose that we did not complete many Tot School activities. She has zero concentration but I have found she really enjoys when we sing songs/rhymes. She now “sings” along with us. Every day we sing between 5-10 songs and count 1-10 numerous times throughout the day too.

When we go for a morning walk, I always ensure to point out all the sights too.

We go to a playdate 1-2 times per week for some interaction with children her own age.

Ava loves to play with balls of all size, golfballs, rugby ball, bouncy balls, football, every day we make sure to play a ball game with her and she is great at kicking, throwing and dribbling now.

Speech Development

May has been a game changer with Ava’s speech. Out of nowhere, she started saying more words, singing and visually recognising numbers. While she still is behind for a child her age, she has come on leaps and bounds.

Words she can now say: Hello, Mama, Car, Two, Three, Four, Six, Ten, Dada, Nana, Balloon, Bye, Bird, Bowl, Ball, Sky, Ladder, Yes, No, Go, Clock, Bubbles, Bob, Isla and Fridge.

She sounds out the letter “A’, “B’, “C”, “H”, “D”, ” and “L”.

She also sounds all the animal noises for Dog, Cat, Cow, Sheep, Pig, Duck, Bird, Horse, Owl, Rooster, Lion and Chicken.

Personal goals:

  • Read 1 book in each of these categories: financial, leadership and self-development

    • This month I managed to read a book, I know I was surprised too. Months ago I reserved Gary Vaynerchuck’s new book “Crushing It” at my local library. It came in at the start of May 2018.
      • Overall I gained a lot from this book, it was interesting to read about those whom applied his theories and have had success. In fact, it’s GaryVee’s advice I’m following to build my Twitter presence and so far, it’s working. 14 followers, 4.4k impressions in 6 days. I would recommend this book to those looking to crush it on social media and build a personal brand.
  • Spend 4 hours learning French

    • FAIL, I think this goal is dead and gone, I’m so busy trying to build my blog and YouTube and look after my daughter, I barely have time to do anything else.

Personal Finances

At the start of May 2018, we made the decision to focus on our finances and save as much as we can. We are a one income family and whilst money isn’t “tight” we do need to watch what we spend. In April I started to budget via a software called * YNAB (You Need A Budget) and we managed to save €650. In May we put €559 into our savings. I’m hoping this trend continues as we have lots of plans but with one solid income it’s slow going to achieve them.

Overall I’m happy with my Blog, YouTube and Social Media outlets for the month of May 2018. Like past months there are some areas needing improvement. June will be spent building my Twitter presence and I also plan to upload a free printable to my blog, which I hope my readers will like. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my post today.

Until next time,

Karen x
